Not So Lucky
Well, as you might have guessed by the ending caption there, this is the last Utopian Foundation strip … MAYBE. It’s interesting timing–and totally unplanned–because today is basically the nine-year anniversary of The Utopian webcomic (which first debuted online April 15, 2009).
As mentioned last week, The Utopian going on hiatus for just a little while, while I get a few other creative/comic projects launched/underway/etc. One of those projects is the trade paperback collection of THIS webcomic, which I’ve mentioned several times before. I debuted a limited edition at Emerald City Comic Con last month, with the intention of releasing the book officially this week, but it’s probably going to be more like May or June for the official release of The Utopian Foundation trade. I should have a confirmed date on that soon, hopefully by the end of this week.
However, I’m making the remainder of the ECCC copies available for sale in my Etsy shop. And I’ve created a special discount for you loyal readers: Use the code UTOP02ECCC or just follow this link and you’ll get 25% off the $19.99 cover price. (Bonus: I’m making the discount code good for any of the comics in my shop, in case you wanted to grab anything else while you’re there.) This is only good until May 15 or until supplies run out. This version of the book (with the golden cover seen below) will never appear in print again!
A side effect of spending so much time with this comic during the process of preparing it for print and distribution is revisiting every single strip and all of the characters and, I guess, falling in love with this world again. It’s weird, because the in first iteration of The Utopian that preceded “Foundation,” the supporting cast was almost incidental, mostly one-dimension characters designed to move the plot forward. I didn’t expect them to grow into living, breathing characters or spawn a world in which I’d still have interest almost a decade later.
Anyway, all that is to say, if you still have interest in these people and their world, there’s more coming. And if you really like what you’ve read in this comic, I hope you’ll stick around for what’s to come. Thank you for your support thus far!
