Swing Shift
We’re getting pretty close to the gala here (no, for real!), so pretty much every strip for the next few weeks will be building up to that. AND THEN IT’S GALA TIME! Which also means NEW STRIPS time, which also means PJ REALLY STRESSED TIME. So yay?
Great. This Jer– guy’s crooked, and will let someone install something that s/he shouldn’t.
Have you been sneaking a peek at my scripts?
I wouldn’t know how to get to where you store them, so… no. 🙂
That said, there’s more than enough people who dislike what James did and stood for, people for whom he got in the way of their exploitation of the system and other people for their own profit, that it’s logical that some people in positions of power don’t want to allow the celebration to be permitted. (I really wish I weren’t so cynical about it, but I’ve watched some of the local city council meetings where they’ve been so knee-jerk to anything even remotely high-profile that requires emergency or police response that they have shut down law-abiding youth events, and denied them future permits, for calling the police when they discovered people peddling drugs to youth on their premises. I can only foresee a denial of business license renewal to the Foundation after this kind of event, if Michelle honors the request by Mr Anderson to butt out of investigating his innocence and thus avoids uncovering the conspiracy. :-/ )
Seriously, though… unless there’s a well-known and documented reason why a cop might want to pick up extra hours/pay, or alternatively a documented-in-advance reason why they might want to avoid extra hours, it would be better for everyone involved if such duty was randomly assigned instead of being volunteer/tradeable.
I recognize that I’m being distrustful of the motives of a minority of cops, when the majority of police actually do want to help the communities they serve and follow the law in the process of enforcing it. That said, the minorities of any group are the ones who end up doing the things that tarnish those groups’ reputations, and usually for no good reason they can articulate.
(Incidentally, I’m no longer getting emails from WordPress when you reply? I confirmed that I wanted to subscribe to the notifications.)
(By the way, welcome back)
